Filling up here in McLean Country can be stressful for many people. Watching a lot of money go towards gas when the price is so high leaves people with a mixture of emotions. We’d like to share some tips with you on how you might be able to save some money on gas.
You’ve probably heard it before, but we’ll tell you again….The faster you drive, the more gas you use. Following the speed limit helps your auto use gas better and will not only save you money at the pump, but on other expenses that driving too fast may leave you with!
Tire Pressure: Make sure that your Springfield Mitsubishi Eclipse has the right tire pressure, especially as the temperatures rise with the summer heat. Tires that are not at the right pressure equal more resistance and that puts strain on the auto. As a result, it will use gas less efficiently.
Maintenance Matters: Following your Mitsubishi’s maintenance schedule in regards to changing the oil, rotating tires, replacing air filters, and much more keeps your car running in the best shape it can. And, yep, you guessed it- this will also help maximize fuel economy.
Get rid of the extras: You know the bag of clothes that was supposed to go to Goodwill three months ago? The basketball? Golf clubs? All those items sitting permanently in your trunk, whether you notice it or not, weigh down your car, causing it to use more gas. Keep your car cleaned out as best as you can.
Accelerate reasonably: Revving to the top speed you can travel at very quickly is not the smartest move. Accelerate slowing and gradually to maximize gas use in your model.
To Use or Not to Use: At lower speeds, roll down your windows and save on air conditioning. At higher speeds, usually over 50 mph or so, open windows increase resistance, which equals more gas. At those faster speeds, it’s smarter to run the air conditioning.
