Upcoming ‘i’ features award winning range numbers

If you regularly follow our blog, then you know how anticipated the all new electric ‘i’ is for Mitsubishi.  In fact, last month we told you how the automaker has even set up solar powered charging stations at their headquarters in California.  As it’s fall release gets closer with each day that passes by, more and more information will come out for you to take in.

It Wows the EPA

The Environmental Protection Agency is involved in the auto industry, especially as standards for autos change, in addition to the emergence of all the new hybrids, electric cars, and other environmentally friendly cars we are seeing on lots today.  The EPA looks at different areas to make sure that cars are meeting standards and they even rate various autos in certain areas.

One area that is looked at for electric cars is their mile per gallon equivalency.  In other words, if powered by a gasoline engine, similar to other Springfield IL used cars we have in stock, how many miles per gallon would the ‘i’ get?  The answer to this is approximately 126 MPGe in the city and 99 if driving on a highway.  In fact, the upcoming ‘i’ leads its class in MPGe readings.  This is great information to have if you are used to driving a gas powered car and are seriously considering making a switch to the ‘i’.

Another area that the EPA looked at is driving range.  The government agency has some real world simulations that they put the ‘i’ through to get real life numbers.  For example, the ‘i’ gets a real time reading of 62 miles on a full charge.  This is after the vehicle has been put through some stressful driving situations that would take more battery power, along with driving in hotter temps with the AC on, which also takes power from the battery.

To add onto the real world setting simulation, the EPA also does a LA4 test, which simulates the ‘i’, which will be sold here at your favorite Bloomington Normal car dealer, being driven primarily in local traffic.  If you drive mostly in a town like Bloomington-Normal with stop and go traffic, lights, and other similar stops, you’ll get around 98 mpg.

Compact autos gaining momentum in many auto markets

It makes sense that Mitsubishi is jumping into the idea of smaller, more compact autos that either use gas much more efficiently than other models or solely run on electric power.  We’ve brought you quite a bit of information about the “i” that is rolling into the U.S. market later this fall.  This electric car is just a small sampling of the growing line-up of similar autos that Mitsubishi will be rolling out, here in the United States, as well as other markets, where subcompact autos have already made a big showing.
